Hello to all, I’m glad to be back after a short leave. The Cherokee Beast made it’s first burn ever last night. I’m happy with the results but it has a couple of problems that I have not figured out how to fix yet. The first problem is that my fire button won’t fire. Yes I made sure that I had the fire button turned on. Because the fire button won’t fire, I had to set travel speed at one mm/m so I could try to focus the the thing. When I tell it to frame, it will frame. When I tell it to start, it starts and works great. The second problem is that it is burning all words are in mirror form. Looking at the screen everything is correct. Wording is not backwards and when I run preview, again everything looks correct. So for right now I am stumped. Any ideas to help would be great. Randy
Check your origin position setting. Front left, back, left, back right, front by right.
I am pretty sure you cannot addjust the focus when the laser is firing. Even at 0.1% on a 10w diode, it is much too bright to see the actual spot. Focus is usually set by a guage, swing down arm, ot by auto-focus.
Does the laser fire when Framing?
Hello Mike, yes all 4 of my lasers has a gauge of some sort, my Cherokee Beast is a 20w. with drop down gauge. Yes I can focus my laser running at 1mm/m. at that slow speed it’s no problem to focus on the move. Keep constant power turned on.
Yes it does fire when framing. it just won’t fire when you click fire! In device settings my “enable laser fire button “ is turned on, my “laser on when framing” is turned on. So I’m stumped here.
What is the % setting in the box next to the Fire button?
I keep my auto home turned off at all times so there is no xy home position. I always use “set origin” and “set finish position” so my settings change with every different project I do. My total working area is Y 850.9 mm and X 711.2 mm. My origin has never had anything to do firing.
set at 2.0 — frame works fine, laser fires
Below is the list of GCode commands issued to the controller when I turn the Fire button on, then off. Compare this to what you get.
- Power up the laser.
- Open the Console window and turn on the Show All button.
- Right-click and click on Clear Console.
- In the Move window, click the Fire button.
- Then click it one more time.
- Go back to the Console window and copy everything that appears.
- Paste that copy in a Reply.

sorry, nothing happens when I right click, also I can’t do a screen shot when I’m in LB. I built my beast from scratch. Running MKS controller and for some reason when I did the latest LB up date a lot of stuff in LB would not control the MKS controller, I had to fall back to 1.6 version of LB to get the controller to work. Even in 1.6 some things still don’t work. I never had this problem with the fire button before during construction and testing. ——- Randy
SHIFT+WIN+S opens the snip tool. Drag a box around what you want to take a picture of, then come back to this reply window and press CTRL+V to paste.
there is nothing to snip when the window won’t open.
Which window? The Snipping Tool just pops up a little bar of controls (I have mine on the Taskbar) OR it pops up (SHFT+WinKey+S) ready for you to drag a box around what you want to capture.
Sorry Mike, What I’m saying is when you turn “Show All” on and then right click you should see the code for the firing button. When I right click nothing happens at all, no window opens up to screen shoot or snip a picture. That’s ok I figured out that my controller is bad. When I hooked up two different Ortur lasers, they both did the same thing as the beast, nothing worked right. I saw the problem after I hooked up the first Ortur and had the same results as the beast. To make sure I hooked up a second Ortur and same results. Then I uninstalled LB and did reinstall, still same problem. That tells me the MKS controller board is bad. So right now I am swapping out my controller board. That should fix it. I’ll give U.D. later. ------
