The dreaded "Problem sending data to the laser. the machine may be busy or paused" Windows 11 Message

Hello everyone,
Relative new guy to this world though I’ve done 3D printing for 10 years. 3D printing was never this hard. Even designing it on autocad and exporting to the slicer was a piece of cake. The switch to engraving is proving a bit more difficult than I imagined. I work full time in medicine and I am also a full time student. WHich means I have limited time.
I bought a Creality Falcon 40 w and am attempting to get my Windows 11 PC to communicate with it, but I keep getting the above message. Creality is a Chinese based company with limited tech support that is usually just a chat bot that occasionally goes to an actual person that is of no help. Firmware is GRBL and not Marlin. That is one of the few nuggets of info I was able to get from Creality.
Firmware to the unit AND the laser head has been flashed with the latest version of the Bin. I can’t get the PC to recognize the machine even though Lightburn is able to detect it. Meaning the engraver isn’t showing up on the device manager. I purposefully chose a trial with lightburn because of all the good reviews and if it works out I intend on buying it.
I have searched about 10 other threads in this forum, and also looked at solutions online. None are working for this issue. Closest I could get was someone swearing that Creality products aren’t compatible with Lightburn and had to boot up the bin file while deleting a bunch of other stuff. Yeah that’s over my head. I can start your heart if it stops but that in no way means I have PC technical prowess.
In short I need help. If there is a way to get this to work can someone please direct me to the thread or page or forum or video? Remember I’m the smartest dumb^&% you’ll ever meet so solutions with training wheels get bonus points!
In all seriousness though, My tech skills suck, but I follow directions well. I just need things spelled out.

Where I’m at is I have the engraver all set up and firmware flashed on both the frame and the laser head. Lightburn has recognized there is a device connected and allowed me to set up the account etc. It recognized the machine automatically and not manually. To refresh memory for those that need it- lightburn doesn’t let you set up an account without a machine. The engraver is set up to Creality specs, assembled and ready to start burning. Lightburn is set up and I have a design ready to send tot he machine. I keep getting the error message with a direct USB connection, and I have tried both USB ports. I have tried saving it tot he SD card- nothing happens with any attempts to engrave.

I just don’t know what to do and the manufacturer that is happy to take over $1k for their product, is of no help.

Thank you in advance.

How are you determining this? LightBurn won’t be able to connect without the OS providing a serial port for the machine. That requires OS recognition and a COM port to be created. Only then can LightBurn attempt a connection to the machine.

Check Device Manager. Do you see a device being detected when the laser is powered on? Check Ports for a COM port to be created for the machine. Make note of which COM port is assigned to the machine.

If you’re convinced that LightBurn does see the machine, please take a full screenshot of LightBurn after connecting making sure both the Console window and Laser window are in view.

Then it is not being detected. Maybe missing the driver.
