Recently I got a rotary for my CR Falcon 10W and tried to set it up. I had no luck and a forum member on facebook recommended Louisiana Hobby Guy videos to help. I was able to get the rotary to move down the axis but still was having a hard time getting it to frame the image consistently.
I had an order come in for some custom coasters so I unplugged the rotary and tried to set lightburn to standard settings again. I got a bunch of errors and I have no clue what any of it means- I am handy but not a coder by any stretch. I attached these photos to the FB forum
Another forum member mentioned that machine settings is not a good place to fool with if not a coder, but I had followed the instructions on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL6tXOupQgo
I couldn’t add all the photos above so I continued here.
Anyway they said to go into machine settings to make sure X and Y steps per mm match. They did not so as per instructed I matched Y to X and hit write. I powered off the machine and back on and then was hit with these errors. I did hit $ to get more details which are listed in the photo as well.
After trying to Frame a square to see if I can finally cut non elongated shapes/cut anything at all I got this barrage of errors and it won’t do anything at all. Have I bricked my machine???
No, but you played with the parameters without understanding why. Did that video mention that you should save a copy of the parameters before changing them (referred in the computer world as a “backup”)? First question, did you uncheck the Enable Rotary switch in the Rotary Setup window?
So when I go to load from backup it’s not there but it is under load from file. And the video recommended naming it default settings so I did. defaultlasersettings.lbset
Not sure if this matters or is helpful but when I turned my machine on and opened lightburn I got this message under console
Oh good, I had never received that message before so I figured it was an issue.
I had tried to reload the file, via the upload from file option. It didn’t work.
After spending forever searching Google for a specific error I got many times, I ended up finding a command for factory reset. I just used it and the machine is working again.
I will still need to set up the rotary at some point but at least I can fulfill the coaster order I received.
Thank you for taking time to try and work through this with me.
That is usually not as complicated as people think. Do not mess with firmware settings, just use the rotary wizard and you are done. Explanations are here:
