I need some help. The table is XY750*1100mm Z160.
I’m trying to set up the tool length probe, it gives me the timeout, how do I change it?
I do not use the probe but if you are timing out, I think increasing your Fast Probe Speed would help. Your 2.5mm/s (150mm/m) is fairly slow. The Precise Probe Feed looks good.
It looks like your Zzero is at the Home position and you are travelling 140mm to get to the probe. A full minute to find the touch surface might be too long. I am just guessing here, but that is how I would attack the issue.
The problem is that whether it goes to the XY axis at high speed or at low speed, when it reaches XY it stops, does not look for Z and the time out window appears.
Hey fotis.
Hope, I can help you with this.
Because your Z Lift Offset is set to 0.00 mm, MillMage forces the machine to start its slow probing routine from the absolute top ($Z = 0$).
Combined with your Fast probe feed of only 2.5 mm/s, traveling down that massive distance takes way too long. If the tool has to creep down 100 mm at that speed, it takes 40 seconds. MillMage or GRBL will hit their internal safety timeout long before it reaches the sensor and abort the process.
Change Z Lift Offset to 20.00 mm (or more, depending on the height of your tool length probe): This tells MillMage that it’s safe to fast-travel down into the working area before switching to the slow probing cycle.
Increase Fast probe feed: Change it from 2.5 mm/s to something like 10.0 mm/s or 15.0 mm/s so the initial search doesn’t take forever.

I gotta get a touch probe! I am missing out of all the fun. ![]()
Ultimately, the mistake was mine. I apologize to everyone. I have a habit of placing the probing sensor on the X axis during storage and it accidentally touched the metal, which resulted in the cutting tool search stopping.
Google Translate.
I wouldn’t call it fun .
when your sitting there wondering if it’s going to cut air or dive in to an expensive piece of material. after tool change
and so random , one day it will cut air , next it will just dive ![]()
That would be scarry for sure!
