Tool Library Import

Hey Guys, I just start to play with MillMage and so far I love it, great work on it.
Is there any chance that an import tool could be created to leverage the tool library files that alot of companies already publish for other programs like Fusion, Vectric or other? The Spetools company even provides a CSV file.

Welcome and thanks for asking. We do intend to provide a ‘Starter’ tool Library as we get closer to full release, which will be fairly generic and conservative. There are numerous variables with the wide variety of systems we will be supporting. Many of the available Tool catalogs are built with the assumption of infinite horsepower and stiffness. Adjustment / refinement will be required to best match your system, materials and desired results.

Thank you Rick, Yes I agree most tool databases are pretty generic and further tuning is needed to match the machine and individual preferences.
Great to know that a generic or starter set of bits in the tool library is planned!!

TOTALLY AGRRE. Im loving this, but the only thing that is slowing me down is having to manually view toolpaths in carvco to get the specs to enter here one at a time. Some aort of database campatibility would be great.

I’m actually a database engineer by trade so I’m going to throw out an idea without knowing if the preseumption behind it is true. Because of sudden health issues, I haven’t gotten out to use my CNC yet. Just a thought. The gcode from a program you’re using has speeds for bits used in that project, right? Can it be assummed that if you import that gcode into MM (can you import gcode?) that at least you could have have safe numbers for those bits and absorb that info into MM? This does assume that the maker of the gcode had good data for speed and feed in the first place. But would this give at lease one “good” entry for a bit into MM?

The challenge is the variables. Tool producers provide their data with the assumption of unlimited stiffness and horsepower. If one goes the other way, the assumption is that we are working with the same materials and equipment, with the same stiffness and horsepower. My library might work for your setup, but no guarantees, your mileage may will vary.

Paul has been working on this opportunity.

Sadly that link goes nowhere. Maybe it was, but its not now.

Maybe was it this?

Sorry, I just realized it’s in a private beta forum.
Oops! :speak_no_evil_monkey:
That said, it is the same project as at your link.

@Rick , would it be possible to create a tool that allows us to convert an Excel file to your property file type for creating tool or material databases?
Even if you created an extension or web-based tool. Anything would be a great selling feature that many other programs offer. It would be a feature that IMO would be one less reason for people not to purchase MM or LB. And it would take your developer less than 2 hours to create, test, and publish; and there’s no maintenance.
BTW, I’m new to lightburn and just discovered MillMage today and very excited to get started using it tomorrow.
