Why does tracing a scanned drawing produce such bad results. The lines are not smooth at all. Tried different settings but not much success. The original is a drafted image.

Lightburn does not do centerline tracing. You can try Inkscape.
You can work around in a couple of different ways.
Adjust the Image
Adjust the Trace
Do the TRACE multiple times with different settings to average the best result
Trace and then use the Offset command - offset a large amount OUTward outer shapes only, delete the original items. Offset INward the same amount, and the roughness will be reduced.
Patch over the gaps with Boolean weld
Use the NODE EDIT group to manually break and join specific parts.
There are a lot of different ways to achieve your goals.
For lines, I do image tracing using Vellum paper and a light pad. I then scan it into the computer. Then I import it into Lightburn. If I get what you show, it is caused by:
I found a wide line gives me an inner and outer trace. I just delete the inner one.
For images, there is a lack of black and white contrast in that area. Sometimes, no amount of fiddling with brightness, contrast, and gamma will cure the problem. And every image is a fresh new project.
