Tracing a raster line and getting a single centerline rather than an outline

I’ve struggled finding a way to even describe what I’m trying to ask but here goes.

If I were to use a sharpie to draw a straight line and then create a vector using the trace command I would get a vector that is basically a two sided linear feature (tube) connected at both ends. The vector would trace the outer width of the sharpie line.

What I would like to do is to trace the sharpie line and get a single linear vector that has no width. Basically a centerline.

I am looking for this feature and my example would be making a custom jigsaw puzzle. If I draw the puzzle out on paper and trace it using lightburn the laser will traverse the cut lines twice when I really just want it to cross the path once.

I’m sure I confused the crap out of you guys. Sorry about that.

I guess in short I’m looking for a centerline trace function.

InkScape will do a centerline trace, but LightBurn does not have this at this time. It’s probably going to require a decent amount of hand-editing after the fact, as the centerline trace function doesn’t do well with intersections and T-junctions.
