Tracing whole image

I have been reviewing all of the posts on this site for image tracing but not able to figure out the issue I am having… I would like to put this image on a glass, without the black backgrounds (once you convert it in Lightburn)

but each time I try to trace it and take out the black backround parts of the feathers also disappear. I took it into an image editor and tried to remove the blacks but that did not work well. I read the “teach em to fish comments” would love to fish!

Shot in the dark here, did you un-group everything before taking anything out?

Hmmm good thought … I did not once I traced it and saw that pieces were missing in the trace I stopped there … I hope that makes sense…the top left feather has no outline in it for example after I trace it … I reviewed the video on how to use the trace tool tried adding in nodes, etc but still left off parts

Not sure exactly what you want to do, but to get a more complete image try using the sketch trace in the trace image window.

You can trace the same image multiple times using different settings to capture different areas. Zoom in, pan around, and fade the image to see the trace lines better. Adjust slider to capture the desired areas. The “ingore smaller than” setting is also extremely useful to minimize stray “noise”.

Remember, a trace is just an OUTLINE. A line between the white and black is both the inside of one and outside of the other.
