Just what it says in the title. When I first turn on the laser module, I’m getting a buzzing noise from the control module. It lasts for about 45 seconds, then fades away. Before I open it all up to see what’s going on in there, anyone have any idea what to look for? It kinda sounds like something in the fan, but then with the fading away, I’m confused. Tapping it or wiggling it will make it change a bit.
My first choice too. When was the last time you cleaned it? The fade out is where what is on the blades might be worn off as it runs.
Did I ask when was the last time you cleaned it? Cooling fins too…
You did ask. Honestly, I’ve never cleaned it. I’ve had it for about a year and use it a decent amount, but not daily and sometimes, not weekly. I’ve always been a bit intimidated about taking it apart. I suppose that is my first step.
I have been an electronics guy most of my life, and I was afraid too. What if I broke one of those tiny wires?
Remove the fan carefully and blow out out with an air compressor or a can of dry air. Hold the fan so it does not rotate at ultra high speed and damage a bearing. Use thick paper (poster board?) strips to clean between the cooling vanes where you can. I found regular contact cleaner does not do very well as a cleaner for the residue.
Just be gentle and you will succeed. I did. ![]()
Better to deploy a vacuum cleaner and small paintbrush.

My bad, forgot to mention that tool. I cut down the bristles so it was stiffer.
I thought of that, but decided the cooling fins would not get cleaned. Use whatever tools you can get your hands on.
Intimidating job for sure as those fans are quite delicate and it may not take much residue to affect their spin.
I used cotton-buds and alcohol. I used one end to soak and remove the bulk of the grime and then the other end to polish at/through both top and bottom of the module.
