A last minute gift for the gardener at school. This year she came across two snakes in the grounds at various times and had to watch them until a handler arrived to relocate them.
It is made from 19mm rubber wood, cut on my scroll saw and engraved with my 10w Phecda.
I think it’s a very nice gift and you’ve done an elegant job. These are the type of gifts people keep forever. Besides that, it’s a noble and loving gesture to think of your gardener, I like that too.
Would you like to tell us a little about the laser part of your work? Did you manually draw the skin pattern or find a usable drawing?..
I found a “Snake skin” pattern and replicated it a number of times until it covered my drawing.
I then edited it quite heavily in Lightburn so that the seams would all blend.
I never bothered cleaning up the edges as they would be removed when I used a 6mm router bit to round over the edges. Keeping this in mind I cut the heads leaving about 6mm around them so as not to lose any detail.
Thanks for the feedback with your information.
I can imagine the work with the skin pattern, it reminds me of some miniature walls in the brick look I have made once - also manually.
Happy New Year
Cheers Bernd and wishing you and yours all the best mate.
