Ubuntu - USB for EM-Smart

I know this has been covered, but it appears I might have something else going on. Lightburn doesn’t detect the USB device. I’ve entered the “sudo adduser $USER dialout && sudo adduser $USER tty” command, logged out, rebooted, tried everything I can think of. The OS does see the device:
[ 2558.598123] usb 1-1.2: new high-speed USB device number 12 using xhci_hcd
[ 2558.786568] usb 1-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=9588, idProduct=9899, bcdDevice= 0.00
[ 2558.786571] usb 1-1.2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[ 2558.786572] usb 1-1.2: Product: USBLMCV2
[ 2558.786573] usb 1-1.2: Manufacturer: BJJCZ
[ 2558.786574] usb 1-1.2: SerialNumber
And to verify that it wasn’t cables or the laser, I set it up on my mac, and I could use the laser.
Thank you for your help.
It’s Ubuntu 22.04.1 - just installed today. Running on a system76 meerkat with 32G RAM

Can you check if a serial device has been created?

ls -l /dev/*USB*

Also, can you run these commands to get some more information:

lsusb
lsusb -t
sudo dmesg | grep -i "1-1"

sudo ls -l /dev/USB
[sudo] password for sara:
ls: cannot access ‘/dev/USB’: No such file or directory
I guess a serial device wasn’t created (tried without sudo first)

Seems to me that the device is being identified but that no driver is being loaded for it, thus no serial device creation.

I’m not familiar with the serial chip used on that laser. The vendor and device IDs don’t pull up any common information for me. I’m guessing this could be persuaded to load with an existing driver if the proper chip is identified.

Similar hacks using Zadig on the Windows side is sometimes used.

Can you check Windows Device Manager to see if you can get any clues about it?

Or perhaps anyone else who’s intimately familiar with this device may be able to chime in.

I don’t have any Windows computers. The mac identified and used it. I could probably plug it back into it and see what it’s using.

Sorry. Misremembered what you had said about that.
