But once continuous mode has been enabled and Lightburn re-started, neither manual or continuous jog modes work. Is this a known issue?

I don’t know if it’s a known issue but at least one other user experienced what seems like a related issue. See here:

This needs to be supported by the controller to work. Are you sure the S1 supports this feature? Is this for a vector graphic or image? Unexpected slowdowns could be possibly explained by things in the design not obvious. The skipping lines should never occur. Either the machine is losing steps or possibly a firmware issue. How do you know what gcode has to be entered? Is this an xTool requirement? If so, then that’s more about the idiosyncrasies of the machine.

Bottom line, if jogging fails after enabling $J Jogging then the firmware likely doesn’t support it.

And, should the arrow keys on the Num Pad work while in manual mode? (they don’t)

It should.

Make sure that mouse focus is on workspace when you attempt this. Numlock must also be on.
