Update Sculpfun S9 to S30 ultra 33w

Hi everyone! A simple question:
Has anyone updated their laser sculpfun S9 with upgrade kit module s30 ultra 33w?
Have you encountered chassis strength issues?
I state that I have the updated linear guide so from the reinforced one.
Was the High speed engraving good?
In case of these problems, how did you solve it?please let me know! thank you very much!!

Quite some people did successfully.

Yes, and it’s officially stated as well. The overall top speed of the mechanics will be reduced to about 2000 mm/min. So it’s an upgrade to greatly improve cutting times, but you will slow down engraving times.

If you want to have normal engraving speeds, you need to upgrade to the linear rail at least.

I’ve already Linear rail guide but the sculpfun s9 one (light blue) not those reinforced (dark blue).
Is it sufficient to engrave and cut at high speed without issues?

Dear Melvin,

What do you think about my last answer?

Thanks

Yes. I don’t think there is something really reinforced at the new frames. It’s just a different color. So if you have the linear rail, that should be fine, I guess. There are two types of linear rails, but I think the smaller one can also take the bigger module.

Hi dear and thank for you replay, finally my package arrived and i’ve already whipped it and try, ok for cut, but as regard engrave at 4000mm/m there are Waves effect, also at 1000mm/m with the same small image (Yellow angry bird for i.e).
Before start also i fixed laser to myvtable with screws to male more stable, but i suppose maube i’ve to calibrate again Eccentric nits (my opinion).
Could i ask you if someone else has upgrade with success sculpfun s9 with Linear guide, with ultra 33w kit?

Thanks a lot again!i hole together we can rwsokve this issue!:cry::cry:

check your eccentric nuts and the belts.

Done, and they seems ok, however for best result 1000mm/min for engrave is recommended.
Another question: what is the best combination of speed and power to obtain major variety of tonality on MDF with this laser?

mdf is difficult material, you will just need to test it.

also, i find that securing my frame to a wood spoilboard helps secure it from extra movement.

Done also fixed frame on table!
Do you have sculpfun s9 frame and update with ultra 33w?

i am their authorized u.s. distributor so i have a lot of their laser.

Ok understood, another question: someone has tried to cut playwood of 10mm, 15mm or 18mm successfully? Because i tried different setting but wood every time is burned like fireplace. And so for this reason I can’t cut no shape.

Depends on the wood type. If it’s solid wood, you can cut up to about 15mm, sometimes more. But that doesn’t make sense with those lasers. If you want to continue trying, use high speeds (800mm/min and more) and many passes.
Personally, I never use more than 12mm plywood and those only if I have no other option. A CNC is the better tool for thicker materials.

I have the Sculptfun S6 Pro. Sculptfun indicates that the 34w laser upgrade works with the S6 Pro as well.
I presently have the 5.5W laser, but I am considering purchasing the 34w laser for cutting.
Has anyone done this upgrade and are there any issues?

You won’t be able to engrave fast using this setup. The head is heavy and the frame not really designed for it. Expect the maximum speed around 2000mm/min. For cutting, that’s more than enough. For engraving that’s quite slow, but the engraving quality of high-power modules is not the best anyhow.

Thanks for the reply misken.
Once I upgrade to the 34W module, can I still swap out the 34W module back to the original 5.5W module for engraving?

Depends. You need to swap the power supply as well. And both heads use a different connector. But in general, that’s possible.
