Updated to 1.6.00 and all settings lost - laser frame is off and cuts mirrored/flipped

I’m about to throw in the towel…I literally don’t know what to do from here.

When I click frame, even though the file shows in the upper left of the screen, the laser frames at the bottom of the area. If I try to send the file, I get “out of bounds” warning but it will cut fine still, though different from what it shows on the screen. It’s at the bottom (like the frame) and the image is upside down/mirrored. I’m sure there’s more happening but I’m so frustrated I don’t even know what to do…

This is usually caused by the wrong origin in the device settings.

Can you post a screenshot of the device settings and let us know what corner the machine homes when it boots?

:smile_cat:

It homes in the upper left (if looking at the machine)

Are you using absolute coordinates or other origin? When you updated it may have changed the Start from setting.

It doesn’t matter which setting I choose there, it still starts from the bottom of the bed area and cuts mirrored.

I missed where you said it cuts mirrored in your original post. If you use the move controls in lightburn does it move in the indicated direction in one or both axes?

I had a similar situation with my diode laser after replacing the control board and had to change some of the settings to get the correct orientation, mainly the $3 setting. I had to change mine to $3=3 to get it working correct.

Not sure that this will solve your problem, but might be worth a try.

This may be a dumb question, but how do I move the controls?

I did jog the laser and right and left work, but up and down are reversed.

Also, how do I check the current settings? I thought it was $$ but this is what I get when I do that:

OK,so the X axix is correct, Y is reversed. You said the machine homes to the top left, which is what your origin is set to in lightburn, correct?

You jogged it using lightburn, not any controls on the machine itself?

If you can get the output to work, verify what your $3 setting is currently. If it’s 0, enter $3=2, vrfify the change and test jogging the laser.

If $$ doesn’t work it’s above my knowledge level, sorry.

@berainlb I was reading another thread where you were helpful on what appeared to be a similar topic, so I’m reaching out to you as well. I am thinking my coding with my controller is not correct, but really don’t know how to change it. I didn’t install the controller myself, so all of this is foreign to me. I appreciate any guidance or assistance…I’m about ready to throw in the towel.

Don’t apologize! I sincerely appreciate all the assistance!

Smoothieware K40 machines are typically configured such that Origin is bottom-left. Change that and retest. Jogging controls should work in the intended direction and framing should position corresponding to position on workspace.

What are your results?

Yes, the fact that your machine starts from the bottom is telling. I would set your origin bottom left. Make sure you do not have a design open when you change your origin. Open an new lightburn workspace and change the origin, then open your file.

What is the proper origin setting? Is it where laser goes when issued the G0 X0 Y0 command?
And if Lightburn uses positive coordinates then wouldn’t be bottom left?

It doesn’t appear to be mirrored anymore, but it is still alerting me to “out of bounds”, only using the bottom part of the bed area, and jog down and up work.

Can you upload a full screenshot of the exact message?

Also include a full screenshot of LightBurn with your design showing.

I will do so this evening when I get home! Thank you.

Sometimes when you update LightBurn, windows will do strange things, like ignore your preferences/settings. Go to File>Load Prefs Backup>Select an option that worked for you previously to get your settings back the way they were.

This worked…sort of, so THANK YOU! I still seem to have some sort of gremlin in my system that has moved the placement of all of my files on the screen, but that is an easy fix and I’m finally cutting again, so I’m gonna take that as a win and CREATE!
