Using my laser on 2 color acrylic

I am very new to using the CNC especially with the laser and LightBurn, I’ve been having some issues with understanding how to use the software. I am looking to make labels like the one in the picture and I’m wondering if that’s even possible with the laser or even the rotary. Again I’m very new to this stuff and could just use any help available. Thank you all in advance.

Yes. I make those all the time. Just make sure that you do the text before the cutting. The white on black laminate works well with the blue lasers. CO2 is definitely better, but the laser diodes also work.

Thank you!

Is there a specific setting on LightBurn or anything I should be using?
Also I have a Spoil board on there because the plastic is so thin. Should I not be using that?

It depends on the laminate you are using. For best results with text or pictures, I usually make 2 passes. You only have to remove a very thin layer of the top color to see the bottom layer. You don’t really need the board for this. But for cutting the laminate, I would raise the piece up a bit.( lifting the piece above your spoil board and reset the laser focus) You will get a cleaner burn.

I have a SCULPFUN S9 and the settings I use are:

Text - speed 2500 / power 45% /Line interval .09 / either 2 passes or crosshatch one time

Cut - speed 450 / power 100% / 7 passes

I use WD40 to clean the cut piece and it comes out perfect.

This should give you a good starting point.

mm per minute? (The new user you’re helping may be running in another default setting for units and it’s easy to overlook this when starting)

Yes mm/min. Sorry for the oversight.

No worries friend, Just trying to encourage the use of the units.
Plus, I wanted to know for myself… I might make a thing.

I love working with laminate. There are so many things that can be made. Here is one of my latest projects. A ford enthusiast clock installed inside a model A tire.

so yesterday I finally got around to trying again and i can get my laser to burn wood but unless i press the button that turns it onto full power it wont burn my 2 color acrylic. im using a 5.5w diode laser

The top layer of the laminate I use is a very thin layer of the top color. It should be easy to do with your 5.5w machine.

I realized that the laminate was heavy duty and made for rotary only. So I’ve ordered the right stuff and i should be all good after that
