Using Specialty Fonts in Lightburn

Hoping to get some guidance. I’ve purchased some nice fonts that have special characters like hearts at the end of a word. When I use MS Word or Character Map to copy the symbols that make up the artistic heart and past it to Lightburn it doesn’t accept the symbol as it was defined and most everything looks like the letter g. Is there something special I should do when I take that to Lightburn?

I did find an annoying work around and that’s to take a screen shot and paste the image then convert to bitmap. I’m not a fan of that because I wanted to use some of the abilities of Lightburn to shape a word or snap it to a path.

TIA

LightBurn doesn’t have explicit support for ligatures or contextual forms as far as I know. So if those shapes are implemented as such they may not be easily accessible in LightBurn.

Can you attach a link to where I can see the font?

That’s not ideal and lossy in quality.

Two things you could try:

  1. create text in Inkscape or other program capable of generating SVG and seeing if the text will come over with the requested shape
  2. Use Inkscape to create the shape, then convert the text to path. Then import the path into LightBurn. That would be preferable than going the bitmap route.

You can simply Copy and Paste from Character Map directly into LightBurn. Start a text block in LightBurn in the font that you want to use the extended characters from. Select the extended character you want in Character Map, hit the copy button. Paste into LightBurn and it will paste the copied character.

Searching for “Character Map UWP” on my favorite browser found this:

Character Map UWP from Microsoft

I’ve been using if for some time now and really prefer it over the default one that comes with Windows. If you’re on a mac, well… I dunno what to tell you.

Wow, what a great find! I love that you can actually resize the window as well. Working on a 4K monitor, the built in Character Map was kind of hard to use as it was so small and not resizable. This really makes it more usable. Thanks for the tip!
