Using templates

I have a template with registration marks in both corners. I have a positon marked in Lightburn for these registration marks and line my template up with the position saved in my laser/Lightburn. I thought that I could simply put the product in the template when it was lined up in this fashion but when I frame it, it moves to the left off the template so clearly I don’t understand how templates/saved positions etc. work or I’m doing something wrong. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

For more clarity, My machine is an OMTech, MF100 -2028
I have tried using all 3 positions options (Current Position, User Origin, and Absolute Coordinates) but it frames off the template.

I use templates all the time, but I lock mine to the table with locating screws… When I cut it, I use absolute to position the template in the proper place, but I can change to user origin and use that also…

To make user origin work, you have to place there head where you want the origin and physically press ‘origin’ on the machines console… There is no ‘software’ way to set the user origin on the Ruida.

How are you aligning your templates registration marks…?

I choose the saved position under the move tab - in this case I have a template for my pencil jig. When I select “Go” in the software, the machine head moves to that position. I then line my template up centering the cross-hairs of the registration marks directly under the red light on the laser head - making sure it’s representative of where the laser fires when pulsed.

Sounds like you should be using ‘user origin’ and after you ‘go’ to the proper place – press ‘origin’ on the console to set the user origin…

You can do this with absolute coordinates… did you try either ‘user origin’ or ‘absolute coordinates’ ?

It’s difficult to ‘see’ what you are up to in detail…

I think I’ve tried it but I’ll keep working on it. I’m sure it’s a simple step or process I’m missing. Thanks!

Thanks! I’ll use the information you shared to see if I can figure it out.
