When I upgraded to the new version 1.2.00 all of my Lightburn thumbnails turned into the default Lightburn icon. All of my other files still show the thumbnails except for the Lightburn files. I am using windows 11 and exhausted all my options for converting the Lightburn files back to thumbnail previews. i have basically tried everything windows related that I can find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you possibly manually set the file association of .lbrn(2) file types? If so, that would break the thumbnails.
Perhaps try reinstalling LightBurn to see if you can correct the file associations.
That is a possibility and not sure how I did but I will try reinstalling it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and still the same thing. Nothing changed
So not absolutely sure what might be going on in your case. Try some of these remedies:
- If you haven’t already done so, try rebooting your computer.
- Consider deleting your current thumbnail cache so that it will rebuild:
Clear and Reset Thumbnail Cache in Windows 11 Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum (elevenforum.com) - Check that your file associations are correct in registry. You may not want to try to do this if you’re not relatively familiar with the registry.
But check for these entries:
I just went through and deleted the cache and also verified the register and it all matches. And nothing changed yet.
The part that stumps me is that it is only involving the Lightburn files.
I also tried installing the previous version and I get the same results
So if I take the file and put it into the recycle bin and then restore it the thumbnail preview comes back. But as soon as you close the file and the folder and reopen the folder the thumbnail turns back to the Lightburn icon. Not sure if this helps at all…
Hmm… that’s very odd. Seems to indicate OS level thing though… What size icons are you set to in File Explorer?
If you turn on File Preview in Explorer and you click the file once, are you given a preview of the file?
I have tried small med and large icons and all are the same result. I have tried the preview option when the Lightburn icon is displayed and no preview will come up.
That makes me think there’s still a problem with something in the registry or the thumbnail handler.
But I’m grasping at straws at this point.
Do you possibly have a recent restore point you could go back to see if that fixes it?
I will have to look into that more.
I followed these instructions (off the internet) the last time it happened to me.
"Not able to view or preview pictures in Windows Explorer, follow the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.
Step 1: Open control panel by typing Control Panel in the search box next to Start button, and press Enter.
Step 2: Select Large icons in the view by option on the left top hand side of the window, and select File Explorer Options.
Step 3: Click on View tab and check if:
Display file icon on thumbnails
Show preview handlers in preview pane, are checked.
Step 4: Uncheck the following:
Always show icons, never thumbnails
Always show menu
Step 5: Enable or disable any other options you wish to make changes on, click on Apply, and OK."
I did try that and had the same results. it is getting very frustrating
So after multiple hours with Windows help session the conclusion was an issue with the files saving to the OneDrive. After I turned the OneDrive off my thumbnails stay. So now I have to reach one to a OneDrive specialist to see if they can figure it out.
Thanks for everyone’s help
Glad you’ve isolated the issue. The issue with cloud drive platforms causing issues with LightBurn is fairly common. Curious that the issue didn’t present itself earlier though.
To be very honest I’m thinking it was user error and when I did the last update on my laptop, I believe the OneDrive got turned on and caused the issue.
Oh, so you weren’t previously using OneDrive? That could be a variable then for sure.
That was definitely the issue. Turned the OneDrive off and has worked since. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
