Very novice - A sign with raised lettering

Hello, I am attempting to create a sign that’s rectangular. Just to learn, I’m making a rectangle with inversed rounded corners and making that a profile 3mm deep. This wood is .75" (for just playing, not cutting yet). I wrote my street address and want to leave those without beig cut at all. So, in effect, the lettering is raised compared to the pocketted background. I’ve tried converting the letters to vectors, negative height, and other ideas but I don’t get those letters in a simulation. How to do this please?

Didn’t realize this was MillMage.

Take a look at this YouTube where he’s using MM to create a similar sign.

If you only select the outline it will pocket the full area - selecting both the edge and the letters will pocket around them.

EDIT: I realize after doing the below, you want raised lettering. For this, you would use a pocket operation and select both the numbers and the outer perimeter.

To do this, I would draw a rectangle, then go to the ‘Shape Properties’ tab (enable from the top menu bar under ‘Window > Shape properties’)

Then use a negative radius to make an inverted radius corner.

Create the numbers you want with the font and size you want, select both of them, and press the bullseye icon to center all.

Next we want to make a pocket operation. New Operation > Pocket, fill in the settings and select a tool as needed.

Then select the numbers, and select ‘Assign Shapes’ to add those shapes to the Pocket Op.

Finally, do the same process, but for a profile cutout, and press Alt+P to preview.

Attached is a sample .mage file for you to poke at

I did this one a bit different—turned the text and numbers into paths to line things up just right so the 1/8" endmill can handle all the cuts.

Some font and cutter combos work great, others—not so much they sometimes need a little fiddling around.

File’s attached for reference.

Thank you everyone. Got it working.
