While on the subject of align, is there an easy way to get a rectangle for example back to horizontal?

You can select the rectangle and check th Angle with the Measure tool

.
then input the value into the rotate box.

If memory serves me correct there was an easier way to return the objects to the horizontal by using a couple of keyboard presses, but for the life of me I cannot remember them.

There is also Node Editor - which might not always work but is worth going over.

Enable Node Editor.
Hover your mouse over the line of the shape you want to align to 0º
Press A key.

Works if your close to horizontal or vertical. If guess you can move it close before using.
I was unaware that it doesn’t require you to convert to path first.
Seems like an odd place to put an align tool.

User interface work is cumbersome, and since we don’t have a way to select just a line in LightBurn, an “align” tool would need to be a mode that you turned on, like Line mode, so you could then click on a line to align it. Since all of that “plumbing” was already in place in the Node Edit tool, it was put there for now until we figure out a better place for it and do all the remaining work to make it its own thing.

This way you get it now and can use it right away, instead of having to wait for the rest of that work.
