Wallet Commissioned as a Gift for His Wife

I have a family of neighbors who are both doctors. The husband commissioned me to make a wallet for his wife to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. After giving it careful thought, I designed a model in harmony with her profession.

The decoration is inspired by key figures in the history of psychiatry—three psychiatrists from about one hundred and fifty years ago who laid the foundations of modern psychiatry: Dr. Emil Kraepelin, Dr. Eugen Bleuler, and Dr. Sigmund Freud. I wanted to give it a vintage look that matches the era and the characters.

The wallet is the square model, a design I have been making for years. It has fifteen compartments: six for cards with RFID protection, three for visible cards, two for discreet cards, one coin purse with three sections, and one compartment for banknotes. It is made of natural vegetable-tanned leather.

It took me a month to complete the piece, which greatly impressed my neighbor. Yesterday he gave it to his wife, and she loved it as well.
