Wanting to update GRBL machine travel limits - $130-132 unrecognized?

Hey all,
Fairly new to gcode commands, and especially to GRBL here. I have a comgrow comgo z1, which normally has an x and y travel of 400mm. I replaced the y-axis rails with 1m 2020 extrusion in hopes of increasing the machine’s footprint, but apparently there is a limit set in the machine’s firmware? I attempted to run $131 but am getting an error about that command not being recognized. Is there another way to update this value? Any help would be appreciated!

The syntax of the command you’re issuing may be incorrect.

I’d suggest using Edit->Machine Settings to change this setting in that case.

@berainlb Sorry - I should’ve clarified that part. I’ve already updated the machine’s working area within lightburn, and everywhere I check shows the new value, except for when I enter the $$ command in the console. At this point I just get errors saying I’m telling the machine to go beyond it’s travel limit, even though the footprint shown in lightburn reflects the larger size.

Did you “write” back the changes to the controller? If not, the change will only be cached on your computer but not reflected in the controller.

Scratch that last question - found it! Thanks so much for your help.

ya, it’s a bit tricky since Lightburn requires a work area setting in their Device settings you create for the machine AND there’s the Machine device Settings which are a window in and out of the firmware settings.
Great that you found it and are starting to learn more about these machines and software. It’s lots of fun.

What was it?

Me being a n00b at lightburn :upside_down_face: I was confusing device settings with machine settings. I work with a different laptop than the one I have hooked up to my machine, so I’ve never seen what the machine settings look like when hooked up to a machine that is on and connected. After updating machine settings and hitting ‘write,’ all was well.

The settings are Editable on the Comgrow Z1. That’s great news.

When you get a chance, please copy the initial connection messages from your engraver into a reply here. Often the Model Name, Build date, and Build Options are communicated from your engraver to LightBurn. These messages appear in the Console window in LightBurn and may help others identify firmware with adjustable settings.
