Weld option doesn't work

I am trying to weld two images together overlapping and the weld option on the left when clicked on nothing happens.

Looks like the 2 components are grouped. Separate out the components by the shapes you want to weld.

They are two separate images that I want to combine in an overlap and weld together and eliminate the lines in the overlap.

It may be that one or both of the shapes are not closed, if that is the case none of the boolean functions will work.

This may require you to duplicate the outer shape of the smaller apple shape, then select that as the ‘cutter’. It will be removed as part of the process.

I assume you traced the original images and are using the resulting vectors. These may be grouped, and you may need to ungroup first. Select the outside shape of the small apple and duplicate it, putting it on a different layer for easy identification.

Now, select all elements of the large apple shape and ‘Group’ them. Now add the newly created outer-shape of the small apple to the selection by ‘Shift-clicking’ it. You are now set to use the ‘Boolean Assistant’ (Hotkey = Ctrl/⌘ + B) to help visualize the resulting options, prior to completing this task.

Thanks guys, for all the info, I am not very computer savy with these things and don’t know what all the terms used mean. I have tried to follow along with videos on the subject doing what they do, clicking on the same things they do, but it always seems something different happens on my end than what happens for them. This is too difficult for me to figure out, so I give up on this one. I ended up drawing the two apples like I want them and scanned that in my computer and uploaded that picture with them already overlapped and that is working for my purpose.
