make your lines ungrouped and editable, insert a point where your line and your curve meet (on the piece to be removed), point to what you want removed and press T = trim.
Weld (and the other booleans) work ONLY on closed areas. For lines, you’ll have to node edit, as Bernd is suggesting.
Join and path closing all assume you have the ends really close together, and here you don’t.
