Hey LB! what is going on with this pricing rise you did recently? second thing is it is not even USD 199 as i checked my basket and being based in europe LB is USD 244.77! Guys, for home use galvo this is crazy. Do you know there is plenty options to get working pirate version? I’m not going to point where but anyone can find is quite easily. I want to switch to LB from EZCAD2 and i want to use a propoer approach but hey! Home users are not companies
hi @LaserSpear
LightBurn is building and maintaining a fully custom galvo engine that works across multiple brands and protocols (EZCAD2/3, JCZ, Raycus, and others), with active support, frequent updates, and a far better user interface.
The higher price you’re seeing in Europe includes local VAT added at checkout. That’s not a markup—it’s tax compliance, and the added amount goes directly to your government.
LightBurn is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The license is yours to keep and includes a year of updates. After that, updates are optional, and the software continues to work without renewal. I’m a little bias but I think it is incredible value.
Future updates (inluding bug fixes) are paid - if this is not a form of subscription then what?
I understand what your position is, but the one-time cost of LightBurn, with the year to get updates means that any bug-fix, which usually occurs within days of a new release is not behind a payment gateway.
Just to expand a little on what you get for your money, this forum for instance is managed, moderated and good quality, we provide an email support service that is very quick and has agents around the world, waiting to help you. We’re adding features all the time. Try getting a feature added to your pirated version, support on it or anything added to EZCAD? I do not wish to get into a back-and-fourth and for that reason I’ll keep the thread open as I feel the right to reply is important, though another moderator may lock it off.
Thank you for understanding:) I think plenty of users doesn’t care about support service as nowadays we have (and we are making) tons of tutorials and there is no topic you can’t find on YT. New features - i can see the new features are only going towards graphic editing options. All the projects i do using completely different software. LB is only to send job to the laser. Only. Plenty of people use it this way. I can see really usefull features requests in the forum - like automation, air assisst control. That would be something related to lasers. And it would be so good. But we can see this feature is “not the priotiry one”. Instead, the new, “revolutionary” LB2.0 is bringing: dark mode (wow! really that was on priority list?), new shapes (even more wow:) shapes? really? new shapes? 21st century and we are talking about new shapes?:D:D). This is LB NEWS page citation on 2.0: " Of course, 2.0 also has lots of exciting new features, including Dark Mode , additional Shape Creation tools, an Edit Nodes toolbar, an improved Camera Calibration option, and more. Read on for additional information, and our full changelog."
Improved Camera calibration - in other words bux fix.
Changes under the hood? Ok, copy that.
Additionally removing Linux from equation is so bad.
Don’t get me wrong - LB is fine. It just looks like it is drifting away from lasers control oriented software towards graphic editing oriented software. I think stating “Dark Mode” in the first place when listing “new exciting features” for the lastest release is confirming that.
Another thing is price bump last year - huge and i think you just increased a lot the amount of users globaly that will go for pirated versions. Believe me - they don’t care about new shapes or dark mode… You completely missed the fact that xxx $ in sweet america means waaay more in other parts of the world.
I’m happy people can still express their thoughts without censorship and thank you for that.
The additional cost is likely VAT.
LightBurn is now obligated to charge EU/UK taxes because we have reached sales thresholds in those countries. Unfortunately, we need to charge these taxes to continue offering LightBurn in the EU and UK.
Still, for what you get for your money is well worth the cost. I just renewed my Sketchup Pro license so I can add some complaints of my own… not to mention it is twice as much it is also a subscription for only a single seat. LightBurn at the price is exceptional value compared to the likes of Adobe or Auto CAD, Microsoft 360 etc.
If that’s your workflow, you could settle for a LB 1.7.08 version or an older one, without update service, for the rest of your “laser life”.
For my part, I have a stable LB version that I can rely on for my work/production and that works (for me) significantly better than the alternative laser programs I have worked/tested with before. I also belong to the type of LB user who wants more design and construction tools in LB. I design/construct everything I produce myself within LightBurn. I don’t want to use multiple programs for the same task.
If you have a laser, its parameters are very good and you can’t recoup the $250. That’s sad. I’m from Ukraine and I recouped the purchase amount in one order. Yes, there are pirated copies, but I decided to support the project. As for the price increase, all complaints are to your government, which takes taxes from you, the same complaints are to my government ))) I don’t want to offend you, but a laser for home use quickly turns into a money-making machine. And if you just don’t want to pay, then that’s another matter. As for the new functions, I completely agree with you 70 percent. For example, rather than drawing functions, it would be better to expand the color palette, and much more. But the truth is that in version 2.0 they added rotation during 3D engraving. That’s a huge plus.
You would be amazed at how many people come here complaining that Facebook and YouTube did not provide the answer they needed. Or how those solutions made things worse.
Complain if you want, but you don’t need our approval for your decision.
totally perfect:D I was not asking for any approval.
Well at least 1.7.8 works for me. And where’s all this support from the Lightburn Team? I messaged them about a problem I’m having with v2,0.02 regarding bad delays in framing only after installing v2and they promptly asked me some questions, which I answered on 2nd August and that’s the last I heard. I would have thought dealing with v2 problems would be high priority!
Do you know that this is a crime in most civilized countries?
I recently bought a car. It never occurred to me to ask for a discount by saying I could just steal the same one for free around the corner
I was waiting for those ‘‘saints’’ to come up:D:D And you gonna tell me you never ever speeding with your shiny new car? So you now can be a professor and teach about crimes other people, right?
I can see your query was under review, and I see you submitted support data.
It looks like you bought a third party camera and are having frame delay. I do know that our lead camera dev is watching the ticket, and he is an absolute wizard! I would trust that your support issue is in good hands… just these things can take time to develop and test.
I can assure you that dealing with version 2.0.xx issues is indeed a high priority since two patches have already been released since your email was sent.
These guys put a lot of work into their programming. To me this is a bargain. I run a CO2 and Fiber laser with the version of LB. I’ve always paid the yearly subscription so I get the down loads notification.
