What is my fibers actual wattage?

Educate me please.

I have here M-Triangel PG OneS machine. Went to look at it on their website and it states that this machine is 20W, but i had to lift the hood on it (because reasons) and source looks like 4W raycus, judging by model numbers on a driver/psu (FL1064-4WX). What gives ? Is this the same as we had with diodes where wattage stated was what was pulled from the wall, not actual optical power output?

Do i get to the other end of the fiber on top of the tower to find some other model numbers in there ?

Datasheet for FL1064-4W states 4W average power and 40kW for peak output - whatever that means.

I was gifted this machine, no clue on galvo-fibers at all, been running 100W CO2 for a while though. Fiber is entirely different kettle of fish to that… Early days, as i only had it for all of 3 days.

I think Fiber machines are more efficient, so it could be a 20w input with a 4w output. This may be only the laser and not include the rest of the machine.

Read up on radar pulse tranmission to understand peak and average power. A radar I worked on had a magnetron with a 50KW peak power and an average 50w power. Narrow high spike, long wait time, low average power.

Its average power is 4w, so it’s what would normally be called a 4w fiber laser as fiber lasers aren’t normally sold on peak power numbers.

If you don’t understand, then please specify what you don’t get and we’ll try to help you. Posting almost the same question more than once just slows down everyones response to this and other questions.

Most of the people that build these buy a source, this usually includes the light cable to the galvo head, from a separate manufacturer and the lens from a different manufacturer. There is a control board that someone else manufactured, driven by power supplies from a power supply manufacturer.

It might have a motor driver for using a rotary by a different manufacturer.

Again, it can have a very high peak output, but can only do it so fast. Spread that peak over time and you end up with an average.

Are you sure of it’s frequency?

Sorry if i appear a bit scattered all over the place. Just tried to separate that one question on wattage into separate thread from the other one. Questions will become more pointed as time goes by.

By frequency you mean source frequency range ? Datasheets state 10-20kHz. Found several datasheets for this model source, they mostly agree.

The machine is awful slow to do anything (then again, reference is youtube full of 30-60W/mopa). At the moment playing around with stainless and metal business cards. BC mark fine if just filled graphics/text, photos are painfully slow (and not quite there yet). Stainless - to get dark mark i need to get down to 10-50mmps at near full power to mark dark.
