What is the best kind of focusing lens

Hi Everyone
I have a chinese 9060 100W laser with 2 inch lens etc. I bought a 1.5 miscus lens and the correct fitting from cloudray. When I use the miscus lens i have to be 4mm away from the work which I think is really close and the cutting with this lens is poor. I tried putting both lenses in with a gap but this created a very out of focus line rather than a dot. What is the best way to use these lenses do I use 1.5 miscus lens for engraving and the 2" for cutting.
Cheers
Rosco

Still, I’m a bit curious. Usually we talk about how far the lens is from the work surface.

But this diagram and video also seem to illustrate that it matters how far the lens is from the final mirror.

Hence, different length tubes for the different lenses.

Obviously, I don’t have a perfect grasp of this yet, so thanks for the discussion, but I suppose it could be more critical if one had something like autofocus.

The only way I know how to focus is by burning on a ramp by trial and error…
