What is the proper S-MAX- value?

I have a Creality Falcon 2 Pro 40w
Some says: "Put 10 000 S- max value, other say: DO NOT DO THAT!!!
I have readed that the right value is 255…What is it??

Hi Riku,

Welcome!

For 99% of current GRBL firmware, Svalue Max should be 1000.
You should not change it.

Smax for 255 is for M3 older GRBL firmware that are not Laser mode compatible.

You need to know what the firmware of your machine has $30 listed as and match that number. In the console window type $$ and press enter. Look for the $30=xxxx, that is the number you need to input into Lightburn’s S-Value max field. It will most likely be 1,000.

Thank you both, that was luminous…! Thank you…

This was asked so often that I wrote some explanation here: Setting up the software - Diode Laser Wiki

It’s a little bit long to post it fully here, but I also created a picture to illustrate it:

Hi! Support told me that Smax for 255 is for M3 older GRBL firmware that are not Laser mode compatible.

That’s not entirely correct. Though it’s true that this value was 255 for all older grbl versions before 1.1e. But those also could be used for lasers. Though there were some features introduced in the versions after that enhance lasering (like M4). And in newer firmwares you can still set this value to 255 or something else. So a manufacturer could have set something different. But nobody does that, usually.
