Hey out there.
I am wondering if there is a plastic that is stiff yet can be cut with the S9 Laser unit. I have a project that would benefit from the use of plastic parts versus plywood. But having never cut plastic I don’t know what is out there if anything.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
You may be able to cut black or other dark acrylics with the laser. Like with wood, thinner parts would be easier to cut but thicker cuts can be reliably cut with multiple passes and do no scorch as easily as wood.
Yeah. That should work fine. You’ll have to balance the cut quality between many lighter passes or attempt to cut heavier in a single pass. Multiple passes won’t leave you with a single smooth “fired” edge but may be better than the artifacts you get with trying to cut at once. I’d suggest you get enough material to be able to run some tests.
The times I’ve done this with a diode laser I think I planned it out to take 16 passes. Came out with a very smooth edge but with very fine layers for each pass. It came out to a nice effect but may not be suitable for all purposes.
