what settings are best used for a 3.6mm for cutting using a 5w Laser on a sculpfun s9?

What ever you discover by testing. Not to be snarky, but every application is different, laser, material, room temperature and humidity, and so on.

10w S30 Sculpfun
2.8mm Baltic Birch plywood sheet
800mm/m
80% power
Air Assist
5 passes (most of the time 4 will do it, but 5 makes sure.

Guessinereg:
Cutting 3.6mm will take twice as much energy as 2,8mm plywood.
5w power will be about 70% compared to 10w due to the smaller focus dot.
Air Assist will improve your cutting ability by a factor of 1.5 or so.
Baltic plywood cuts easier than regular hardware store plywood.

Lightburn has a Material Test under Laser Tools. Use that, but make your boxes about 50mm in size. This will allow the laser to get up to full speed.

When you come back to report the result, tell us what settings you used, how it looked, and the material type. EVERYTHING makes a difference.

This guide provides good background information and a parameter table for the S9 to get started:

I wouldn’t blame you if you get a ready-made Material Preset file from someone else. The Sculpfun S9 is quite popular, and you might find something on Etsy for example.
