What technique created this tile image?

This image is on a 4" x 5" black tile. Can someone tell me how this image was created?

I am not sure of the exact settings used but try using adjust image.

Right click on the image–> adjust image. See the “black paint on white” preset.

That is a good starting point for engraving black tile.

The exact settings depend on the materials and your particular laser.

Please update your profile with details about your laser make and model so other users can better help with settings that apply to your machine.

Thank you. I am just trying to find out how this black tile with the image of Marilyn Monroe was created. Is it laser engraving or laser etching or ? How can I tell what it is?

For stone and tile you would be engraving. You need to remove enough material to leave a lasting impression. So you would be ablating material away and leaving a relatively deep mark.

Hi Karen

I had a little try at this one and managed to track down a version if not the original.
The photo has been cropped in from the sides, top and bottom, she’s wearing a black turtle neck and a bright skirt and the eyelashes on the left eye (lower set) in your version are not as visible in the original, and the original I found is unsigned.

I used Atkinson mode with a line interval of 0.120/Dpi 211.7
Contrast -9
Brightness 14
Gamma 2.950
Enhance radius 2
Enhance amount 520

I think that gets you in the ballpark from a visual comparison of your tile and what I see in Adjust Image (using the version I found…but how it burns is anyones guess.
