When delicate cuts are not uniform

What do you think is the problem with these cuts?
I have try many things to no avail.

Is that the front or back side? If the back, it looks like flashback from the honeycomb. If front, I don’t know.

Thank you for your time and advice. Unfortunately, it is the front. However, the material is paper, and it may create some flashback. I will try to put the paper on top of a cardboard. I will post the result.

What kind of paper is this? It seems to be very rough and made of coarser fibers? My guess would be that it is due to the material or its composition (fibers, glue…)

Ok, the quality of the paper makes a big difference. I am still confused because I see the same laser marks on two different papers. The work is small, and I am a bit perfectionist, but quality is important to me. What is going on?

Post the source images.

Welcome to the forum.

The lines are much wider than I’d expect from a line drawing. Is your tube working OK and your focus correct? What kind of power dose you tube have?

I noticed you used 20mm/s with the maximum power at 20% and 15% for minimum.

I cut targets out of watercolor paper and run 200mm/s@35%.

These are pretty small, but I have a high acceleration rate that you don’t have, so be conscious of how long it takes to slow down and speed up. This should relate to min/max power settings. There are on-line calculators you can use.

If I compare my 200mm/s to your 20mm/s, then it’s 1/10th the speed and should be approximately 1/10the the power for things to be equal. No matter what glass tube power you have, it’s unlikely that you can lase at 2%… All of this seems you’re using a lot of power to do, what seems like little work.

Be aware of the start speed of the controller, most are set around 20mm/s or higher. Any speed at or below the start speed will use only minimum power setting.

This is set in the Edit → Machine Settings → [Engraving & Cut] menu.

Make sense?

You can put more specifics in your profile… someone clicks on your profile they can read what you have, hopefully including the machine(s) wattage.

:smiley_cat:

Great information! Thanks. I will run some experiments, and I will post the results. By the way, I run a Boss laser LS-2440 with 155 Watts tube. I also have a Boss fiber laser of 20 Watts.
