Where can I find the control for “soft limit”? I had it before my laptop died and now I don’t remember where it was. I hate having to set all this up again!
Back up your settings this time around. 
It’s GRBL parameter $20:
You must have the homing cycle working properly and set the maximum travel distances correctly before turning Soft Limits on.
I am trying to turn them off. Forgot it was in the g=code.
