Where to start?

Hi all,

Very new to laser creating, zero experience actually.
I have the Ikier K1 Pro Max laser machine and so far have managed to download and connect my machine to Lightburn software (which, honestly, amazes me that I managed it!).
I have had a little play around and got it to burn a couple of bits onto a scrap board but before I go too far and risk possibly causing problems are there any steps or procedures you suggest I do be it within Lightburn software settings, a simple project… anything you think I should do to help me get started on doing the more (hopefully) cooler stuff. I’ve seen somewhere about test burns…is this something I should be looking at first too?

Any suggestions welcomed but please keep in mind, I have Autism and ADHD so I’d appreciate it if you could keep explanations as simple as possible where you can. Lots of information all at once can be very difficult for me to absorb.

Thank you in advance,

Steve.

In addition to the good advice already mentioned, play with your machine and get to know it. Find out the relationships between speed and power. Learn the basics of handling LightBurn, machine origin, the coordinate system and the difference in measurement units. And, don’t forget, find out how to safely operate your machine.
Enjoy

Practice everything on cardboard to save an unlimited amount of time and material later on. Amazon boxes, cereal boxes, whatever: use them up!

Until you can cut accurate shapes, burn decent images, and generally get the laser to do what you want on cardboard, don’t lay down the spendy stuff.
