My sister wanted me to make her a sign for her busy road. I experimented with some extra white aluminum flashing that I had in the garage. I found the laser would turn the paint into black ash which I could fix with a gentle spray of clear lacquer. The result was amazing.

That is probably an application of the ‘Norton tile’ method you are using… If the paint contains Titanium dioxide, it turns black from the lasers ‘heat’.
