Will LIghtburn work with Xtool D1 Pro with a non-XCS recognizable 3rd party laser addon?

A decade or more ago, he stated Linux won, as Microsoft was using some of their code… I think overall he’s pretty proud of what he’s done… Of course, I’m across the pond…

Linus spoke about interfacing with them, somewhat back in '19…

With Windows 11, you have to override security to install something that hasn’t received the Windows stamp of approval… This means somewhere, down the road, there will be no override and you can only run what Microsoft will allow…

After a working life in IT… IMHO, this is a bad road to go down…

Startled me, then remembered you’re not US… NATO has been with us since before I was born… too bad your country had to get involved with this…

I don’t run any VM ware to run windows programs… if I have to I hijack the spouses machine and do it there…

:money_mouth_face:

It’s free, likely stolen, there is no need for support, upgrades or bug fixes. They can say you can run it on your windows machine…

Sad part is, I think they could do better taking a different route, more satisfaction with purchases.

Why not make it standard grbl and package one of the free software packages that support grbl… of even lower cost, provide a link to it…

EZCad is supplied with most of the fiber lasers, it’s Chinese, but many companies will only support a specific version as releases tend to be buggy.

It sometimes seems like a basic fact that when you kill one bug, a bunch more come to the funeral

Just joking about them draining your data… The thing with software is you don’t know what it’s doing…

I learned a little about Unix in school, who could afford to buy it from AT&T. What pressed me was that I spend about $5k on an Apple G5, then it was announce they were no longer going to use that cpu. In a couple of years, you couldn’t even use the browser, wanting a non existent update…

I went to Linux, on the G5 hardware and never looked back. Lots of times, what works best for you is what you are used to…

I like the simplicity of Linux.

Take care…

Hi.

As he should be, that’s one heck of a feat he pulled off.

Fortunately I’m at 10, an will be unless I absolutely have to “upgrade” to 11.
At that hopefully unlikely scenario, I probably have to rethink my desicion not to use Linux  .

Even as a someone not in IT, that sounds a bad road to go down as well.

OTOH, we already have that, it’s called Apple/Mac.
Fortunately one can use Linux on a mackbook, unfortunately even linux can’t override the battery charging cycle counter.

It’s a sheer miracle how Apple has been able to pull it off, but I for one thnk it’s not that their way was/is the better one or the software/hardware is better or more reliable, it’s jus that the competition was driven by other goals and those goals made their products even less appealing.
So unbelievable portion of the masses chose Apple, even though their choices was severely restricted.
“The illusion of freedom” applies methinks.

Agreed, it wasn’t the most ideal choice, but unfortunately an absolutely necessary one.
We have been NATO compatible for decades, but the general opinion has been against joining.

Agreed, if the XCS and the firmware would be better, they’d have a winner.
Especially now that they have the 40W optical power head.
OTOH, if XCS was better, that would probably reduce the appeal to purchase LB license.
So some good comes with the bad.

Exactly, that would be the logical way of doing it.

:grinning: How true.

However unlikely, that’s always a real concern.
For me anyway.
And that’s one of the reasons I do make sure my social networking footprint is as tiny as possible.
Even though I have absolutely nothing of value to anyone to be stolen.

Thanks, You too.

Regards,
Sam
