Windows on ARM + Lightburn

I was looking to buy a new computer, looking at the Microsoft Surface with the Snapdragon X ARM processor.

Will lightburn work on this computer?

Hi Matt

While Lightburn Will run, the biggest issue will be getting drivers for CH340 or FTDI or galvo.
They will not work.

Therefore it will be a design ONLY instalation

That makes sense, thanks so much for the helpful feedback!

This may be a non-factor if you connect to the laser via ethernet. I suspect that should work without issue but I have not yet tried it.

Native ARM64 CH34x are available from the manufacturer:
Ch340 serial driver for Windows ARM edition? : r/lasercutting

Native FTDI drivers are also available:
D2XX Drivers - FTDI

Not aware of the specific galvo drivers.

while these exist, I was unable to find a ARM user that was able to actually install them and use them.

Do you mean specifically for LightBurn or for any device communication? The reddit link shows people having success with communication but I don’t see specific confirmation on LightBurn usage.

I don’t currently have an ARM device to test this on but that makes me curious…

Regardless of LightBurn, simply have Serial ports show for CH340 or FTDI

I tried to walk some users through this - on Snapdragons and Microsoft Surfaces, without success.

I’d like to be able to check this out now…

Of course - there’s a massive possibility I missed a trick - but I am also planning to get a snapdragon one to test. Multiple users bought them thinking they were normal intel/amd devices. Bit of a pain to diagnose things.
