So I foolishly did the windows11 H2 update and now my device settings have been erased. Presumably I’m not going to be the only one suffering from this, does anyone know where the settings might have gone?
I find it hard to believe that even Microsoft would actually delete files though ‘stashing’ them somewhere sounds probable. Why it’d fiddle with them in the first place is a mystery as ever.
Searched both C: and D: for ‘lbprefs’ and ‘lbdev’ but nothing found. Looked in AppData/Local/Lightburn or whatever the path is and the backup dir is empty so no auto-backups
Just to make sure, did you look for .lbprefs files in this location?
C:\Users*your-username*\AppData\Local\LightBurn\backup\prefs
The Explorer search feature could not find them for me.
It would be odd if Windows deleted these files during an update!
That’s what I thought but I searched the whole of C: and D: and nothing other than those files dated today.
It’s a Ruida machine anyway so 99.9% of the config is in the controller so bar the scanning offset which I need to re-check, it was just a matter of reocnnecting to it o the LAN.
Have already saved the new prefs to the folder that gets backed up to the NAS, not trusting Windows to behave like a proper OS - thought we’d got past all that nonsense by now!
More than probable. Look for a folder with “old” in the name. I do not remember where they put it. They did this to me about 4-5 years ago. I now have a NAS box for my PC backup. If something disappears, I just go get it there.
You could backup the entire PC to a thumb drive, but I recommend using USB 3.0 rated drives.
