Wireless Ethernet Solution (I've seen CISA.gov flagged extenders)

I am trying to improve the workflow of my office shop by eliminating reliance on USB to transport files to my Ruida controller. Another forum member enjoyed success with a device that can be found for under $2 on ebay, called a Vonets VAP11G… However, before ordering, since it will have local, internal access to my network, I checked the .gov cybersecutiry database, CISA, and found it has serious security vulnerabilities, such as hard set admin credentials, and un-deletable admin account. Any suggestions on a more secure solution?

I tried the Vonets “bridge” for a while, it did not work consistently so I got a TP Link product that worked well consistently.

Thanks for the recommendation Patrick.

I just ordered it - CISA shows a few vulnerabilities, but (i) from within the same, host network, or (ii) if outside the network, the attacker needs authorization (credentials). There is an old stack-error entry, but to force a stack you need a way in. This one looks good to me.

When you get it, be aware that the set up “steps” operate rather slowly. Several time during my initial set up I assumed something had failed to happen and I quit. Just be patient.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I used a low cost bridge by TP-Link from Amazon. Last time I looked it’s about $20 USD.

Just set it up as a bridge. Any bridge or router that can be configured as a bridge should work.

The Lightburn Bridge is actually better if you have a PI or wish to buy one already setup from Lightburn. I had a couple then we had the monsoon season roll in… :man_shrugging:

The advantage or the Lightburn Bridge is there’s a code layer written by Lightburn that helps with the UDP communications with the Ruida…

Technically a bridge would normally connect from one network to another…

Have fun

Looks great Jack! I ordered a TP, per Patrick’s comments. That said - I was unaware of the Lightburn bridge based on an RP. I’ve got an unused RP sitting around from a failed bridge project for my CNC mill that only reads USB thumb drives. I may play around with it.

All the best!
