Wizmaker artisan 01

so I guess I should have researched more but I purchased a Wizmaker Artisan 01 pro thinking it was a top brand name in cnc, I am happy with the machine and it seems to be well built and the few practice projects are coming out as intended, so just curious, did I buy a brand name machine with a different label? my first laser was a Nasum a5 pro come to find out it is an Atomstack A5 pro

I’m unfamilliar with that machine, but it appears to run grbl firmware. Should work fine with MillMage - use the free trial to get started.

yeah that’s what I been doing it I am loving it so far especially with millmage

only problem I’ve found is it only takes 1/8” shanks, it doesn’t take 1/4”

Its a little hard to tell but you can likely purchase a larger collet for your spindle.

This looks to be an ER-16 or maybe ER-11 collet - if you remove it and send a photo we can likely help find the right one for this machine.

I did a search on the machine and AI results said not to use 1/4” shanks on this machine, I would think if I put the 500w spindle it would handle it, although I’m not familiar with cnc

Perfect - that’s an ER-11 collet. You can definitely put 1/4" tooling in the machine how well it will operate with that tool is a different story. You can find ER-11 collets at all the usual online spots with a cursory search. You could also split the difference an use 3/16" tooling, or similar equivalents in metric if that’s easier for you to get.

does that insert with the fingers just pop out? I tried pushing on it but didn’t want to break anything

never mind, pushed a little harder and it popped out, thank you so much for your input!!

Collets have a little lip that they need to pop down in to. When you reinstall the collet, ensure that the face of it is all the way at the bottom of the collet nut. It should look as it did in your above photo.

I ordered a collet that comes with both a 1/8 and a 1/4 size, researching further it is not recommended to use 1/4 with a 300w spindle so I only purchased the 1 for the 500w

The 1/4 will work with the 300w, you will just need to go pretty slow and take shallow cuts. You will probably need to do that as well with the 500w.
