Hello, I am new to Lightburn and I can’t get it to cut like I can in LaserGRBL. I’m sure it’s something I have not done correctly, I have a foxalien 20watt laser set at 30mm above 3mm material and slowed way down to 10" inches and power on %100 and made several passes with no success. Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thank you
You should set it up following the Lightburn Common Grbl setup, in particular on how the $30 variable and S-value max settings. This has an effect of how you laser pwm is controlled.
Probably check out the ‘quick reference’…
Good luck
Ok, I got it to cut but I have to run it at 10 in/min and on 95% with 8 passes. Does that sound right? I’m a total greenhorn with this stuff. Thank you
Have you done a ramp test to ensure your focused?
I have not done that, is that the focus test in laser tools?
Here is a video, haven’t looked at it but it’s for an led laser.
This is a co2 laser, but it might be easier for you to see, than the previous, but the technique is the same no matter what type.
Ok Jack, I did a ramp test and it really wasn’t that far off. Says that it should be 30mm and the ramp test has it around 27. I adjusted my Z to the 27mm and still takes 12 passes and 98 power to cut through 3mm. Do you think this sounds right?
It sounds off somewhere. I am not an led wizard, so maybe someone can help you check things out…
You did check to make sure the lens is clean…?
I also don’t have air assist, that makes a big difference doesn’t it
I don’t have air assist on my small led laser but many claim it does make a big difference. From working with these, it doesn’t surprise me. I can make clean cuts with a high pressure, that I can’t get with low pressure…
Good luck
