Xiang Qi -Chinese chess- set

Hello,

Here is my 1st project coming to reality with this Xiang Qi set.

Xiang Qi, also known as Chinese Chess, is a game that I learned from my father when I was a kid. We used play on sets made of a box of wooden pieces, blacks and whites, and a board printed on a sheet of paper.

I started designing each pieces as vectorized elements, from the Wikipedia images.

The board design is pretty simple, then. Expect for the “river”, between the 2 fields, which required me some creative design.

The board was expected to be foldable, which explains why it is cut in half. It still is, even though is not shown on these pictures. I also started to design a full version of the board, non-foldable, which explains why the model has a separate, uncut, river.

The photos show the set made of test plywood. The next step would be to make one out of a more decent piece of solid wood.

This project is far from being perfect, I am completely aware of it. I didn’t make it for a commercial purpose, by the way. But it was pretty interesting to design it and to make it go real.

I am very happy to give the Lightburn model to the community. You can download it for free, modify it and improve it. I would be please to know if anyone has any interest in it and any improvements that could be done.

Thanks all!
