I am cutting art that requires a pretty precise registration with the laser, we print registration marks on the art, register the laser to that in lightburn. It’s not too different to the print and cut workflow lightburn provides; we established our process before we knew that tool existed.
When we first tried this with our xtool we would get consistently off results. So it was registering fine but when the cut job was sent to the laser it would always be shifted 17mm off in the x axis.
Practically we overcome this by registering the artwork, shifting everything 17mm and then the cut is perfect.
I wanted to ask through— has anyone experienced something similar, and is there a control we can fiddle with in light burn to eliminate this prep step?
Assuming You’re using the red pointer, yes there is: Laser Offset.
Te control can be found in the LB toolbar:
Edit->Device settings->Basic settings
You can toggle it on and off, and set the offset distances for both the X & Y axes when it’s on.
The same control can be found in XCS as well (can’t unfortunately tell You the exact path because XCS won’t allow running the software without the laser) and IIRC it must be off in order to the LB offset to work as intended.
It is a similar path though.
Since it’s xTool we’re talking about, it’s still a good practise to always test that the offset works as intended before a run .
I do know it’s a PITA to have to do that, but it’s a more of a PITA if the workpiece is ruined.
So in a way You’re replacing one prep step with another, but that’s unfortunately the way it is with xTool.
Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try. I haven’t dove too deep in light burn but I couldn’t find a means to turn the laser sight on via light burn, just XCS.
