Xtool IR 1064nm 2W module presets? anyone?

I’ve found numerous resources for general materials on Xtool 20W but nothing that seems either close to Xtool’s “recommended “ settings specific for the 2W IR module, but without lightburn having a way to identify the specific laser module connected, then I would think that the presets in place might potentially create significant challenges and unsatisfactory results.

Maybe I’ve missed something, certainly very capable (and accused) of missing lots of things, but reinventing the wheel every time is getting old, just like my mind…

so if anyone can assist in clarifying how lightburn handles different module switch outs or functions specific to the Xtool D1 Pro series, if the “official” D1 pro device file for lightburn is also designed for the IR module or if there is a different setup file for the IR module.

All of these are cnc machines. You can change the tool from a spindle → laser or a cookie/cake icing contraption.

As far as I know they only have the same three connections to the controller and they pass nothing back to the controller.

Lightburn has no way to tell what you have hanging off there…

Make sense?

Hi.

Not that I know of.
I’ve used the XTool supplied LB setup file for both the 20W and IR heads, and because that basically acts as a bridge between a “full” GRBL and XTools interpretation of GRBL, there’s (thankfully) no need for separate setup files for different XTool modules.

I’m not code-savvy enough to even know what that code does and how, and while I think that there shouldn’t even be a need for it in the first place, I’m just happy it works :grinning: .

There is a catch though, as there always seems to be with XTool.
But that has nothing to do with the setup file.
If the IR module is installed into 5W or 10W XTool XTool D1 Pro machine, XY speeds have to be reduced drastically in the design stage due to the added mass of the IR module.

I have not played with the XCS at all -I do dislike that Piece Of Software with a passion- so I do not know whether there’s an automatic scaling system for the head chosen.
I assume that a some kind of a macro could be written into LB that would change and scale the parameters according to the head, but I for one do not see any use for that kind of a feature.
But then again, I have barely scratched the surface when it comes down to laser work.
I might change my mind in the future  .

You’re absolutely on track with this. A prudent option would be to create a second Device Profile and name it IRxTool. This way the settings related to IR use can be treated as though they are for a completely different device.

You can flip from device to device quite handily in the Laser window in LightBurn.

Then thats apparently a unique feature of the Xtool Creative Space, which does notably update its materials settings profile whenever the module is switched out.

Understanding that Lightburn may not be able to even recognize head wattage capabilities, makes it all the more important to understand the ends and outs of the profile settings, even if just for the benefit of creating my own.

While my experience so far in getting support from Xtool has been reasonably ok, the biggest struggle is getting any more response than rudimentary ones with little progress to a resolution.

In this case I’m looking for advice on what setting up a custom profile involves.
