I keep getting a “start” burn mark when engraving. See picture. It happens in Lightburn and Xtool Studio. I use default settings for 3mm basswood. I can\t think of what to change, and one else had this issue?
If you are making the cut in one pass (I am guessing because I see little soot on the rest of the cut), that would be where it has to initially burn through the wood. The smoke cannot go out the bottom until it makes a hole.
Hi Mike. The cut works OK with no visible problem. The problem is with scoring, that is what is making the soot or burn mark at the start and finish of, in this case, a circle.
I would say at just the start. Just for grins, try speeding up by a factor of 3 and making 3 passes. That will avoid trying to plunge-burn the hole.
I am guessing if you stop it before it completes and cut along the slot, you would see a ramp that is maybe 3-4mm long as it burns deeper and deeper while it is moving.
Hi mike, I am going to play around with scraps of 3mm ply in “score” mode and see what happens as I use this a lot in designs. I will let you and the forum know how it goes. Thanks for the idea.
