Xtool S1 won’t connect

Hi all,

First time user of Lightburn and I just bought the Xtool S1. I’ve run into issues with finding my laser so after digging I found out it is GRBL based so I manually added it that way, but any time I try to add a project and start the laser, I get an error that says “there was a problem sending data to the laser. The machine may be busy or paused.” I’ve also read online about dl’ng the lbdev file. Any S1 users out there that can help walk me through how to connect my laser? Many thanks in advance!

Make sure you disconnect any applications that might be using that port. As in any software that comes with laser. XCS?

I am an S1 user and had the machine for about a month. Unfortunately I have never been able to get my S1 to work right using LB but it runs excellent using Xtool’s software, XCS. XCS is very clunky compared to LB but it’s not that bad once you get the hang of it.

I have asked on this forum and have yet to find anyone who is successfully running the S1 with LB. Doesn’t mean they’re not out there but I just haven’t seen anyone.

I’ve run most of my projects through XCS and the software is easy to navigate well enough. Just wanted to expand my possibilities, but am running in to all sorts of problems haha

When I open Lightburn, I don’t open XCS but I did notice that if I press the start button on the S1, it will begin my last project. Maybe that’s my hang up. I’ll do a little more digging. Thank you!

Hi ive got lightburn to run well more hobble than run. You need to download the .lbdev file from the xtool website (you’ll need to look in the learn section)and follow the instructions and not to try adding the laser manually as it won’t work. As i say it works but not fully. Here is a text file of the instructions
Set up lightburn with xTool S1 _231222_225005.txt (6.8 KB)

P.S. here’s a copy of the lbdev file if you can’t find it on the xtool website.
xTOOL_S1_V2.lbdev (3.8 KB)

I have downloaded that file already but still am having issues with it. I’ll keep digging on it though. Thank you!
