Y axis motors lacking torque

I have a large bed diode laser that I’m using to cut fabric. Its only a cheap one from Ali express so I can’t expect too much. But it’s been going well except sometimes the Y axis struggles and stops moving and messes up the cutting. It seems the two motors running up don’t have enough torque power and stop moving or struggle to move. If I even put a little pressure on while they are moving they stop and make a noise until I give it a little push and away they go again.
Now the single motor that’s the same on the X axis has no problem and takes a lot of pressure to hold back from moving so I feel the two on the Y should be more then upto the task.
The belts are not too tight and I can move the laser around by hand easily and smoothly.
It’s like the two motors aren’t getting enough power or something.

Does anyone have any idea what I could try?

You might need to increase the current at the stepper driver for the y-axis. The current is usually set for a single motor. If you add another, you need to increase the driving current.

All sorted, I’d connected both Y motors to the same driver. But could switch the X driver to be a second Y and run one for each Y motors.
Heaps of torque now. Happy days.

That’s a nice function. I like that mainboard. What’s the type/ brand?

It’s just a cheap thing from AliExpress. The whole laser setup is from FEUNGSAKE the board included.

But it’s working great now I’ve set it up correctly.
