Hello! I just got a Boss laser 1416 from someone, and I’m having trouble with my Y axis.

Most likely, Rotary mode is enabled; that you may not even have a rotary is irrelevant … 
Perhaps due to Rotary mode, so turn that off first.
If that doesn’t help, then we must know which controller model sits inside the machine. This will generally be a label on the box where all the wiring converges, visible when you open the electronics bay hatch.
