I have watched your Starting Position, Origins, and Homing video. I cannot for the life of me get any User Origin or Current Position setting to not give me the Y slop error other than the top right. I would like to use center right so I can position the image over the logo on the cup. My work is in the center of the work area in Lightburn and the physical position of the laser head has more than enough travel room for a 2" x 3" image. It will work using top right User Origin or Current Position setting but that’s not what I want to do. Any help would be appreciated.
The problem is that the rotary is the ‘y’ axes, so if you are not in the center of the Y axis it will go out of what it thinks is the ‘work area’… i.e. slop error.
I set the rotary to the center of the Y range, based on the console Y value, and press origin, since
I use the left center as the ‘Job Origin’ and ‘Start From’ set to ‘User Origin’.
I use left center so I can align by the handle down (image opposite the handle) or I can put the mug manufactures logo centered, under my engraving.
Mine Y is 300mm, so the Y axis is set to around 150. Then I press origin.
Place my cup/mug with the center of the image up or with the cup logo up… Set the focus…
This means I have 150mm in each Y direction I can go…
Make sense?
Good luck…
Thanks for the reply… I have moved my image to the center of the work area in lightburn, moved my laser head to the center of the Y axis, pressed origin, selected center left user origin job origin, send to machine… Load and press frame on machine and still get Y slop over… Not sure what I’m doing wrong…
This would have no effect, unless you are in ‘Absolute Coords’ setting in Start From.
How did you do this?
You want the rotary to be at the center of the y axis. Using the console keyboard.
You are used to moving the head, but now you can only move it in the X direction… You are used to moving the head around the y axis, you are now moving the y axis around the head…
If you did this, then the speed of the Y could be too fast, resulting in excessive overscan.
The placement is off.
Where the ‘art’ is on Lightburns work area is really only relative when in absolute coordinates mode. Then the work area relates directly to you laser bed…
The ‘green’ square indicates the corner of the work or more specifically the ‘Job Origin’…
How does it show on your screen…? A screenshot of the whole thing would not hurt as would the .lbrn2 file if that’s not a problem.
How large is your machine? Work area wise…
It’s not rocket science, but it can be a mind bender…
You’ll get a handle on it… Hang in there…
I think I understand now to move the Y axis to the center of the work area using the up and down arrows on the keypad reading the Y axis number on the display. I was physically pushing the gantry back to the center of the work area… I set the Y to 100mm on the keypad and it appears to be working now. Thanks for the help!
You have to work with it… I was sure you would ‘snap’ to how it works…
Glad you got what I was talking about…
If this solved it, mark it so… (upper right of reply screen)…
Take care, good luck
I’ll be looking for some pictures of your finished items…
They look great to me…
