I am new to laser engraving and been practising with simple text, it seems to be underlined and there are trace marks on the letters. I ve been told by someone who uses laser GRBL to alter the settings in the command field to $32=1, I tried that is laser GRBL and it has done the trick, can anyone tell how to do this in Lightburn.

GRBL configuration are stored in the laser controller and will be shared between all programs connecting to the laser.

So in your case there’s nothing that would need to be done on LightBurn.
